Carrick 400 Celebrations
15 April 2013
In 1613 Carrick-on-Shannon was granted a charter by King James I. This year 2013 the county town of Leitrim, Carrick on Shannon celebrates it’s 400 year charter.
This is a unique celebration by all the community designed to celebrate, attract and highlight the attributes of Carrick on Shannon as a place to live, a place to relax in and a place to be attracted to when visiting Ireland. As part of this celebration the town of Carrick-on-Shannon is the venue for a host of festivals and events and you’re invited! In addition it coincides with the major national tourism initiative The Gathering 2013 and is a central pivot of the County Leitrim response to Government to this critical economic call out for the times we are in. It complements other locations within the county where Gathering 2013 events are in planning under a central Local Authority committee.
There is something to suit every visitor, from our musical events like The Sessions on the Shannon and The Leitrim Equation Concert to our Heritage and Cultural events like The Leitrim Roots Festival and Heritage Week.
There is fun for all the family too with St. Patrick’s Day celebration and The Carrick on Shannon Fun Day to name but a few.
Carrick on Shannon was the winner of gold in the prestigious European Entente Florale Competition. Our award winning town is steeped in history and culture
