Hay Festival Kells - July 2nd - 6th

Following a hugely successful and award-winning inaugural event last summer, the Hay Festival Kells is back with an even bigger and more ambitious programme.

One of our Irish Country Hotels Members, Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells is at the heart of the festival once again this year.

Some of the highlights of the 2014 Hay Festival will include 3 shows in the Headfort over the weeeknd of 4th - 6th July.

Festival highlights for 2014 include Jung Chang, author of Wild Swans, Louis de Bernières, author of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, poet Rosita Boland, and Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, co-authors of the Pulitzer Prize nominated The Full Story of 9/11 and Osama Bin Laden.

Young audiences will enjoy writers Darren Shan and Judi Curtin and the animated film Moon Man. And there are many other fantastic events including playwright Deirdre Kinahan, sportsman Sean Boylan, Professor David Reynolds on WWI, and Senator Susan O'Keeffe.

Ham Sandwich in Concert

After a sell-out concert in the Olympia Dublin and about to release their new album, the Kells indie group returns home for one night only.

Saturday 5th July 2014

Comedian - Jason Byrne

A riotous evening of comedy. Jason is the best-selling act ever at the Edinburgh Fringe festival for a very good reason. He is one of the most exciting live performers you will ever see. Nothing can compare to seeing Jason in full flow on the live stage. His live shows are part of comedy folklore. Watch comedy history being rewritten by ‘the outright King of Live Comedy’ – The Times.

Liam Ó Maonlaí - Hot House Flowers Member

Liam Ó Maonlaí is one of Ireland’s best-loved musicians and singers, both in rock and traditional music. Bono once described Liam as ‘The best white boy soul singer in the world’, and he has been also been described as one of Ireland’s best Sean Nos (traditional Irish) singers. Spanning over twenty years, Liam’s career has seen him achieve number one hits in over twenty countries, from playing with Aboriginal musicians in the Australian outback to recording with some of the world’s best-known musicians including Carlos Nunes, Donal Lunny, U2 and Van Morrison, to name but a few. A master pianist, Liam also performs on guitar, harp, tin whistle and bodhrán.
