Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, Co Mayo, 08th April 2013

The 'Gathering' initiative is really gathering momentum and is proving to be the success anticipated by the Irish Tourism Industry, so says Mary Fitzgerald, Chairperson of Manor House Hotels & Irish Country Hotels speaking at the independent hotel groups AGM in Westport on the 8th April.

Manor House Hotels & Irish Country Hotels are experiencing strong growth in bookings in the first quarter of 2013 of 17% over what was a very successful 2012 season.

Mary said that the authenticity of the family owned properties seemed to appeal in particular to the visitors coming for the Gathering and looking to get a true Irish experience coupled with a great artisan food product.

The event attended by Minister Ring TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport was held in Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, AA Hotel of the Year in 2012/2013. Mary Fitzgerald also requested the minister to continue the VAT reduction which was responsible for aiding the generation of these growth levels.
The AGM was a busy event with speakers throughout the morning including Gary Keegan, Director of the Irish Institute of Sport and previous High Performance Director with the IABA’s Boxing Progamme and Mark Henry, Director of Central Marketing at Tourism Ireland.  Brian Harte, head of Customer Engagement and E-marketing at Tourism Ireland highlighted the ever increasing importance of social media in connecting with potential visitors to Ireland.
